The metal strip secures the encoder strip in the Mini 18, Mini 24, Helix, and FiberMark laser engravers. It has the added benefit of ensuring that the encoder strip stays flat across the span of the X-axis assembly. This is critical for accurate positioning of the lens carriage when engraving.
